Ecanvasser alternative with a full voter database
Facts checked against official sources · September 9, 2026
Ecanvasser is a door-knocking and field management app used, by its own count, by canvassing teams in 70 countries. If you already have a voter list and you need volunteers on phones with routes, surveys, and offline sync, it does that job well and you can start a trial today.
This page is about the rest of the campaign. A canvassing app is one of five or six things a local candidate needs, and how the other pieces attach to it, or do not, decides how much of your week goes to running the campaign versus running the software. Everything about Ecanvasser below comes from its own site as read on 2026-09-09.
What Ecanvasser is and who it is built for
Ecanvasser's homepage now leads with field sales: home improvement, solar, telecom, real estate, and pest control teams, alongside political campaigns. The political use-case page says it is "trusted by over 15,000+ canvassing teams in 70 countries" and "200,000+ political canvassers." That international, multi-industry footprint shapes the product. It is a configurable field app with a contact database behind it, not a U.S. political data platform.
Access is self-serve. There is a seven-day free trial, monthly billing, and no per-user fees: "Unlimited users. Pricing is based on the territory your team covers, not headcount." For a candidate who wants to try something this week without a sales call, that is a real advantage.
What Ecanvasser does well
These are the capabilities Ecanvasser's feature pages describe, and they cover the field program thoroughly.
- The app. A "configurable canvassing app" with a drag-and-drop interface for the interaction form, custom fields, surveys, and file attachments. NationBuilder's directory listing confirms it runs on Android and iPhone.
- Offline canvassing. "Work offline and sync later," which matters in neighborhoods where cell coverage is poor.
- Turf and routes. "Cut turf and assign walk lists in seconds," territory management with list-access controls, and optimized walking or driving routes of up to 200 stops.
- Real-time tracking. Managers see canvasser activity and locations as they happen (a Pro-tier feature on the pricing page).
- Lists and filters. Dynamic lists that update themselves and static snapshot lists, filtered by contact details, survey responses, interaction status, custom fields, location, and elections data. Lists can be assigned, split evenly among organizers, or exported.
- Reporting. Visual dashboards that "measure progress toward GOTV targets" and track activity live.
- Languages and scale. The app supports 15 languages on the Core tier, and pricing tiers are sized by households covered, from tens of thousands up to a million.
How Ecanvasser pricing works
Ecanvasser publishes its prices. As of 2026-09-09 there are Core and Pro tiers priced by the number of households in your territory, an Enterprise tier with custom pricing and a 12-month minimum, and add-ons for lead prospecting (U.S. only), API access, and enhanced support. All tiers include the free trial and unlimited users. The current figures are on Ecanvasser's pricing page; they are not repeated here because they change.
The model is friendly to volunteer-heavy campaigns, since adding a walker costs nothing. What it does not include is any of the outreach or fundraising channels, which brings us to the rest of the stack.
What a candidate still needs
Ecanvasser's own integrations page is the clearest statement of what the product leaves to other vendors. It lists L2 Data, NationBuilder, Salesforce, CallHub, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Zapier, and a public API. Read against a local campaign's checklist, that maps out like this.
- A voter database. Ecanvasser holds the contacts you import, but it does not sell you the voter file. In the U.S., the L2 Data integration lets you "immediately download voter data into your Ecanvasser dashboard"; that is a separate L2 license with its own cost. Outside a vendor integration, you obtain the file from your election office and import it.
- Texting and phones. Not native. The CallHub integration "enables CallHub's phone banking and SMS outreach directly within Ecanvasser," with call logs and SMS responses syncing between the two. CallHub is a separate account, a separate bill, and its own 10DLC registration.
- Email. Not native. Mailchimp and HubSpot are the listed integrations.
- Donations. Not listed anywhere on Ecanvasser's site as of 2026-09-09. You will use a processor such as Anedot, ActBlue, or WinRed, and donor records will not be on the canvass contact unless you sync them yourself.
- A website. Not listed. NationBuilder is the common pairing; Ecanvasser's NationBuilder integration sends walk lists from your nation to the app and syncs results back.
- Compliance. Ecanvasser's site does not describe TCPA consent logging or a suppression list, because it does not send texts; that responsibility sits with whichever texting vendor you attach.
How the pieces fit together, and where they do not
A typical Ecanvasser stack for a U.S. local race is Ecanvasser for doors, CallHub for phones and texts, Mailchimp for email, NationBuilder or a web host for the site, and Anedot or a party processor for money, with L2 or the county file as the data source. Every one of those is a good product. The cost of the stack is not the sum of the subscriptions; it is the integration work.
Each sync is a field mapping someone has to set up and keep healthy. A survey question renamed in Ecanvasser can stop flowing to NationBuilder. A voter who texts STOP to CallHub has to be suppressed in Mailchimp and on the walk list by hand, because no one system owns consent. A donor who gives on Anedot is not a supporter tag on the canvass record until an export and import happens. For a campaign with a data staffer this is Tuesday. For a first-time city council candidate with a spouse and four volunteers, it is where evenings go.
How Culper compares
Culper approaches the problem from the other end: the campaign's database of voters is the spine, and doors, texts, email, and volunteers are wired to it rather than integrated with it, with online donation processing in development. Candidates in any U.S. state can sign up and upload their file. The table uses Ecanvasser's own pages as read on 2026-09-09.
| Capability | Ecanvasser | Culper |
|---|---|---|
| Voter database | Contacts you import; U.S. voter data via the L2 Data integration (separate license) | Upload your own file (election office, vendor, or another system's export); deduped into one resolved record per voter |
| Targeting | Dynamic and static lists filtered by contact details, survey responses, custom fields, location, elections data | Structured search, saved lists, campaign-scoped tags, and plain-English queries that return a saved list |
| Door knocking | Android and iPhone app; offline; routes up to 200 stops; turf and territory controls; real-time tracking (Pro) | iOS and Android app with auto-generated routes, directions to the next door, GPS-verified visits, offline capture |
| Surveys and scripts | Custom surveys and interaction forms built in the app | Door scripts and survey questions you control; every answer writes to the voter record |
| Texting | Via integration (CallHub) | Built in on Twilio A2P 10DLC with a TCR political brand wizard and a global suppression list |
| Phones | Via integration (CallHub phone banking) | Not listed among Culper's features as of 2026-09-09 |
| Via integration (Mailchimp, HubSpot) | Built in on Resend: templates with variables, delivery and open tracking | |
| Donations | Not listed on Ecanvasser's site (2026-09-09) | In development (Stripe Connect; confirm timing on the onboarding call) |
| Volunteers | Unlimited users; teams, assignments, live tracking | Invite links, roles, skill tags, a leaderboard, and events with location check-in |
| Geography and languages | 70 countries; 15 app languages | Built for U.S. races; app languages are not listed among Culper's features |
| Pricing model | Self-serve subscription by households covered; unlimited users; 7-day free trial; published prices | Three quote-based tiers (Challenger, Campaign, Committee) finalized after an onboarding call; no public price list |
Where Culper falls short of Ecanvasser
There are campaigns for which Ecanvasser is plainly the better choice, and it is worth naming them.
- Outside the United States. Ecanvasser works in 70 countries and 15 languages. Culper's signup is for U.S. candidates, and its compliance workflow is built around U.S. rules such as TCPA and A2P 10DLC.
- You want to start today with a card. Ecanvasser has a free trial and published prices. Culper's tiers are finalized after an onboarding interview.
- You only need doors. If texting, email, and donations are already handled and you just need a field app for a short GOTV push, a single-purpose tool with unlimited users is simpler.
- Non-political field teams. Ecanvasser also serves sales and service teams. Culper is for campaigns, parties, PACs, and slates only.
- Online donation processing is not live yet. Stripe Connect payouts to the committee are in development. Until they ship, you will need a processor such as Anedot, ActBlue, or WinRed, exactly as you would with Ecanvasser, and you should confirm timing on the onboarding call.
- It is new and it brings no data. Culper was founded in 2026, and the file comes from you, exactly as with Ecanvasser.
Which one to choose
Choose Ecanvasser if your campaign already has its data, outreach, and fundraising tools and you need a strong, inexpensive-per-walker app to put on volunteers' phones, or if you are running outside the U.S.
Choose Culper if you would rather not assemble the stack: you want the file, the plain-English query, the walk routes, the survey answers, the texts, and the email on one record from day one, with consent and opt-outs handled in one place. The door knocking guide on this site covers the field plan itself, whichever app you carry.
Frequently asked questions
Does Ecanvasser include voter data?
No. Ecanvasser stores the contacts you import and filters them, including by elections data fields. In the U.S. it integrates with L2 Data so you can download voter data into your dashboard, but that is a separate L2 license. Otherwise you obtain the voter file from your state or county election office and import it.
Does Ecanvasser do texting or phone banking?
Not natively as of 2026-09-09. Ecanvasser's integration with CallHub adds phone banking and SMS outreach inside Ecanvasser, with call logs and text responses syncing between the two products. CallHub is a separate account with its own billing and 10DLC registration.
Can I use Ecanvasser with NationBuilder?
Yes. Ecanvasser is listed in NationBuilder's app directory. The integration imports NationBuilder lists, custom fields, and surveys, sends walk lists to canvassers' Android and iPhone devices, and syncs results back to your nation in real time.
Is Ecanvasser only for political campaigns?
No. Its homepage leads with field sales teams in home improvement, solar, telecom, real estate, and pest control, with political campaigns as one use case. Pricing is by territory covered with unlimited users, which works the same for a sales team and a campaign.
Does Culper work outside the United States?
Culper's signup is open to candidates for U.S. offices, and its texting compliance is built around U.S. rules (TCPA and A2P 10DLC registration). For campaigns outside the U.S., Ecanvasser's 70-country footprint and 15 app languages make it the more practical choice.
What does Ecanvasser cost?
Ecanvasser publishes its prices. As of 2026-09-09 there are Core and Pro tiers priced by households covered, an Enterprise tier on a 12-month minimum, and add-ons for lead prospecting, API access, and support, all with unlimited users and a seven-day trial. Check Ecanvasser's pricing page for current figures.
